Informal sightings

If you have any interesting wildlife sightings in our area then please let others know by submitting your sightings on the sightings page.  Wildlife sightings could include: animals, birds, butterflies, dragonflies, fish, flowers, frogs, fungi etc etc. Include in your message the place and time seen. Please also include your email – this will not be shown on the website. Click below to go to the sightings page.  Posts from guests are welcome. Please note that items on the sighting page have not been verified so will not necessarily be included in any of the Society’s formal records.

Submitting formal records

Bird records

The preferred way to report your bird records to HDNS is now via the BTO BirdTrack service.

All local records sent to BirdTrack will be forwarded by BTO to the HDNS bird recorder (Stephen Root) and to the Yorkshire Recorders, so they are much more widely available. Registration on, and use of BirdTrack is free and it is very easy to use. If you are unable to submit your records via BirdTrack, please use the Report Form to send directly to the bird recorder.
