Dragonflies & Damselflies

Seventeen species of dragonfly have been recorded, 13 of them regularly and these include Migrant, Southern and Brown Hawkers, Common and Ruddy Darters; Four-spotted and Broad-bodied Chasers; Black-tailed Skimmer which is present in good numbers and is easy to observe; Emperor breeds and females can be seen ovipositing in the lake and the pond. Rare migrants have occurred with Lesser Emperor, first recorded in 2005, when it was seen ovipositing, and Red-veined Darter in 2006. Four species of damselfly occur; Emerald, Azure, Common Blue and Blue-tailed.
